Structure

The Temporary Michigan IFTA Permit form is a crucial document for those operating commercial vehicles within Michigan's jurisdiction. Issued by the Michigan Department of Treasury under the authority of Public Act 119 of 1980, this form serves as a temporary solution for vehicle operators who require immediate authorization while waiting for their permanent decals. To obtain this permit, applicants must complete several key sections, including providing their Michigan IFTA account number, current year IFTA license number, and the vehicle identification number (VIN) for each vehicle needing a decal. It is essential to note that this permit is vehicle-specific and can only be issued to current Michigan IFTA licensees. The permit is valid for thirty days, allowing operators to remain compliant during the interim period. Applicants must also ensure that the permit is carried in the vehicle alongside a copy of their current IFTA license. Failure to adhere to the instructions, such as making alterations to the permit, will render it void. For those requesting decals for multiple vehicles, it is the applicant's responsibility to duplicate the permit for each vehicle listed. Additionally, if a decal is being replaced, the appropriate application for replacement must accompany the temporary permit submission. Understanding these requirements will facilitate a smoother application process and ensure compliance with Michigan's IFTA regulations.
